Tia Joins our Breeding Program!

Tia1stmajorsWe would like to officially announce that Tia Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True will be part of our breeding program in the future. She turned 2 years old on December 31st but her hips were not evaluated by OFA until April. Her results have come back and all is well. She was certified clear by CERF and is genetically normal for all the other tests for this breed. Tia loves the water and is currently training in water, agility, and obedience so watch for new titles to hopefully appear behind her name soon! She will be bred this summer and we eagerly anticipate the new chapter in her life as a mother. If all goes well she will produce a beautiful litter in October.

Cassie Joins our Breeding Program!

CassieKars_01We would like to officially announce that Cassie Acostar’s London Lejay Cassis will be part of our breeding program in the future. She turned two on October 15th and her hip and elbow x-rays were submitted to OFA for evaluation. The results have arrived and her hip grade is EXCELLENT and her elbows are normal. She was certified clear by CERF and is genetically normal for all the other tests for this breed. She has a wonderfully outgoing personality and we eagerly anticipate the new chapter in her life as a mother.

A new Champion for Acostar!

CaptainCKCCK_02Despite the thick fog and black ice Captain Elkrun’s Make It So At Acostar and Lily made it up to Red Deer for the Red Deer and District Kennel Club shows on Saturday and Sunday. Captain won Best of Winners and Best of Breed for two points each day which was more than enough to finish his CKC Championship.  Lily had fun for her first time ever in the ring but she is going to need lots more practice. As usual huge thanks go to Tammy Sawatzky and her team for Captain’s excellent handling and to Natasha Humeston for her beautiful grooming job. Captain will now get to have a shorter hair cut and some play time before he heads down to the US to start showing there in the new year.

What a great summer!

Keke-AKC-GrCH-photo_02The rest of us here at Acostar took the summer off completely and had a well-earned vacation. Keke was the only one of the dogs who had showing to do. She went down to IN to stay with her breeder Nigel to show down in the US and hopefully earn her AKC Grand Championship. Well on Sunday August 26th Keke won her third Select 4 point major win in a row to complete her Grand Champion title. She went on to win it again on the Monday.  The shows were hosted by the St. Croix Kennel Club in MN. A huge thank you goes to Nigel Clark for doing all the grooming and handling with Keke towards this title and for entrusting this absolutely fabulous girl to me.

May Update

captain_smallIt has been a very eventful couple of months here at Acostar! The biggest and most recent accomplishment is that Captain Elkrun’s Make It So At Acostar won Best Puppy in Show on Friday April 27th at the Assiniboine Kennel Club from Judge Alan Ewles. He was, as always, expertly handled by Tammy Sawatzky and groomed by Natasha Humeston. Thank you Tammy, Natasha and Mr. Ewles for making this tremendous honor possible. Watch for future updates on this beautiful boy. We expect him to be a new champion very soon.

tia_smallTia’s achievement was a great thrill and we are very proud of her but even more thrilling was that Captain got Best of Breed on the Saturday and TWO Best Puppy in Groups that same week-end! He received one on the Saturday from judge Peter Machen and one on the Sunday from judge Ed Wild. Captain is only 7 months old and already well on his way to his CKC Championship title. Acostar would like to thank Natasha Humeston our groomer for the fabulous job she does on all our dogs and Tammy Sawatzky and her whole team for the care and expertise they put into showing our dogs.

ruby_smallLast but certainly not least our girl Ruby Acostar’s Porto Rubi whelped her third litter through the early morning hours of Saturday April 28th and gave us 8 beautiful healthy puppies. She had 6 females, two wavy and 4 curly and only two males one wavy, one curly. This so far looks to be without a doubt Ruby’s nicest litter and I am really excited to watch them grow and see how they develop. A special thank you goes to Carol Arbuthnot, who owns the sire of this litter Markos Seastar Marcos Portugal of Sapphire for taking such good care of Ruby and all your efforts in making this litter a reality.

Acostar has a new Champion!

tiasmallSo far the winter 2012 show season has been very good for Acostar. Tia finished her CKC Championship the first week-end of March, her second week-end out. She took Best of Breed on the Friday under judge Cheryl Myers Eqerton and again on the Sunday under judge Ed Wild. She is now CH Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True pending CKC approval and will be heading down to the US to show for her AKC championship.

Last show of 2011

millar-0756We just attended our last dog show for 2011 and the dogs did wonderfully! Cassie finished her Canadian Championship going Winners Bitch on both Friday and Saturday for her final 4 points. She is now CH Acostar’s London Lejay Cassis pending approval from the CKC! A special thanks to Tammy Sawatzky and her wonderful team for doing such a great job showing Cassie. Cassie will start learning agility in January. On Sunday, Tia Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True won her first major for two points going Best of Breed over a Special from the senior puppy class. It has taken Tia a few shows to get the hang of this showing stuff but now that she has hit her stride we are expecting great things from her in 2012.

Almost annual update!

cassie_01This has been an incredibly busy year! Three of the puppies from Keke’s litter are living in show homes and have started show and performance careers. One of those puppies has remained here with us. Cassie Acostar’s London Lejay Cassis is just like her mother; calm and affectionate. Her sister Sage Acostar’s Sweetgrass Crossing lives with our groomer Natasha Humeston and keeps her shih tzu house mates on their toes. The big boy Oliver Oreobay Acostar Worth The Trip lives in Ohio and is absolutely gorgious and a joy to live with. Their mom Keke bounced back beautifully from caring for her litter and started 2011 “in training” for obecience, agility, and water work.

Finnegan_01On February 21st 2011, our girl Ruby Acostar’s Porto Rubi whelped a lovely litter of 8 with 5 males and 3 females. She was once again a fantastic mother and one of the puppies from this litter is about to begin showing in the conformation ring in 2012. Finnegan Acostar’s Big Talker lives in Edmonton and his family reports that he is a wonderful companion and loved by everyone he meets.

Litter07_01Just one month later on March 23rd Ruby’s sister Java Acostar’s Java Nadar had a litter of 10 beautiful puppies. She had an even split of 5 males and 5 females but only two of the pups were wavy and the rest were curly. None of these puppies were placed in show homes but look for future updates on them doing performance events like agility.

KekeCD-01Acostar had a fantastic summer!
Keke Oreobay Keke Beach Acostar and I started her quest for a CKC Companion Dog (CD) title in March and got her first two qualifying legs towards the CD title at the CKOC shows but the required third leg proved to be tough to get. We finally achieved the last leg in July at the Kars shows placing second in the class. After spending July and August concentrating on water work Keke earned her Working Water Dog title at the APWDC water trials the first week-end of September. We are so proud of Keke and these titles qualified her for the PWDCA bronze Register Of Merit (ROM) which was presented at the Nationa Specialty in Georgia. The WWD title allows Keke to qualify for the Silver ROM but we missed the deadline by a few days so we’ll have to wait for next year’s specialty. Watch for news on Keke’s next litter soon.

CassieBPIG_01tia3gAlso this summer at the Kars shows Cassie Acostar’s London Lejay Cassis won Best Puppy in Group on the Friday. Not to be outdone, our newest addition Tia Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True won Best Puppy in Group on the Saturday. Both girls were expertly handled by Linda Thompson. They are well on their way to their CKC Championships and we are hoping for great things from them in both the show ring and the whepling box.

Keke has had her first litter!

lit5_newborn02Our girl Keke Oreobay Keke Beack Acostar has finally had her greatly anticipated first litter. They were born through the night on Thursday October 14th and Friday October 15th. She had 10 puppies in total, 3 are girls and 7 are boys, and all are healthy and thriving. Of the girls one is a curly and of the boys 3 are curly. They all have white on them to some degree on the chest, legs, and feet. Keke’s labour was relatively quick, with no complications and she is being a wonderful mother.

Another exiting summer for Acostar!

Rubywatrtoy_01Our girl Ruby Acostar’s Porto Ruby got a well deserved holiday at the family cottage in Quebec after doing a fantastic job raising her litter of puppies that was born in May. She spent hours retrieving her boomerang from the water and practicing for her first attempt at a water title.

Keke Oreobay Keke Beach Acostar has had an equally exciting but entirely different summer. She has been staying with her co-owner Nigel Clark who facilitated Keke’s recent breeding. Thank you Nigel! We are cautiously excited to announce that Keke has been bred to Mackenzie CH Cypress Bay Party On. We will know some time in mid September if she is pregnant and she will be returning home soon. Keep watching the website for updates!
