Busy busy summer!

Aimee_TiaIt has been a very exciting and busy summer! Aimee, the youngest dog enthusiast in the family made her debut in Junior handling in July at the Kars dog shows just outside of Ottawa. She handled Tia and had a wonderful time and did really well. Also showing that weekend was Captain and our baby Bella also made her debut in the show ring owner handled! Bella showed brilliantly and we both had fun. Captain won Best Of Breed on the Saturday and Sunday earning two more points towards his Grand Championship. Thank you Linda Thompson for handling Captain so beautifully.

Captain_AKCThe first weekend in August Captain showed for 4 days at the Alberta Kennel Club shows held at beautiful Spruce Meadows back in Calgary. Captain was expertly handled by Tammy Sawatzky and won Best of Breed three of the four days and is now only two points away from his CKC Grand Championship title.

CaptainAKC-BOB_01TiaNewAKCCH_01Immediately after, both Captain and Tia headed down to the United States with Juliet Clendenon. Tia needed 5 more points to finish her AKC Championship and Captain needed 7 more points to finish his Grand Championship. On August 21st at the Manhattan Kansas Kennel Club shows Tia won Winners Bitch (WB) and Best Opposite Sex (BOS) for a 3 point major and Captain won Best of Breed (BOB)
for a 5 point major. Then on August 22nd Tia won Best of Winners (BOW) and Captain was select dog for one more point each. On August 24th at the Topeka Kennel Club shows Captain won select dog again for his final point and achieved his AKC Grand Championship. On August 30th at the Cheyenne Kennel Club shows in Wyoming Tia won WB and BOS for another 3 point major to finish her AKC Championship. Captain also won select dog for another 3 point major but his points were just extra. Juliet did an amazing job caring for, grooming and handling Tia and Captain and I am eternally grateful to her for her dedication and hard work. We couldn’t have done it without her!

Lily Joins our Breeding Program!

LilyCamrose-02We would like to officially announce that Lily Acostar Lily’s Garden Shiraz will be part of our breeding program in the future. She turned 2 years old on January 14th and her hip and elbow x-rays were submitted that very day. Her hip results came back GOOD and her elbows are normal. She was certified clear by CERF and is genetically normal for all the other tests for this breed except for improper coat for which she is a carrier. Lily likely won’t be bred until the fall of 2014 at the earliest but we eagerly anticipate her first litter.

Captain New AKC Champion available at stud!

Captainmov_01Captain Elkrun’s Make It So At Acostar is once again in the show ring! In 5 shows he has completed his AKC Championship with a total of 17 points. He won two Best of Breeds, a Best of Opposite over specials, a Best of Winners and a Winners Dog, all were major wins. Captain went on showing 3 more days after completing his Championship and won another Best of Winners and two more Best of Breeds, both 5 point majors, for a total of 13 points towards his AKC Grad Championship. Thank you Lyn Martin for breeding, grooming and showing this amazing boy and thank you to all the judges who recognize is exceptional quality. Over the summer Captain completed and passed all his health testing which included obtaining a hip grade of EXCELLENT and he is now available at stud. He has already sired several beautiful litters and we will breed him again in the spring.

Tia Joins our Breeding Program!

Tia1stmajorsWe would like to officially announce that Tia Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True will be part of our breeding program in the future. She turned 2 years old on December 31st but her hips were not evaluated by OFA until April. Her results have come back and all is well. She was certified clear by CERF and is genetically normal for all the other tests for this breed. Tia loves the water and is currently training in water, agility, and obedience so watch for new titles to hopefully appear behind her name soon! She will be bred this summer and we eagerly anticipate the new chapter in her life as a mother. If all goes well she will produce a beautiful litter in October.

Cassie Joins our Breeding Program!

CassieKars_01We would like to officially announce that Cassie Acostar’s London Lejay Cassis will be part of our breeding program in the future. She turned two on October 15th and her hip and elbow x-rays were submitted to OFA for evaluation. The results have arrived and her hip grade is EXCELLENT and her elbows are normal. She was certified clear by CERF and is genetically normal for all the other tests for this breed. She has a wonderfully outgoing personality and we eagerly anticipate the new chapter in her life as a mother.

A new Champion for Acostar!

CaptainCKCCK_02Despite the thick fog and black ice Captain Elkrun’s Make It So At Acostar and Lily made it up to Red Deer for the Red Deer and District Kennel Club shows on Saturday and Sunday. Captain won Best of Winners and Best of Breed for two points each day which was more than enough to finish his CKC Championship.  Lily had fun for her first time ever in the ring but she is going to need lots more practice. As usual huge thanks go to Tammy Sawatzky and her team for Captain’s excellent handling and to Natasha Humeston for her beautiful grooming job. Captain will now get to have a shorter hair cut and some play time before he heads down to the US to start showing there in the new year.

What a great summer!

Keke-AKC-GrCH-photo_02The rest of us here at Acostar took the summer off completely and had a well-earned vacation. Keke was the only one of the dogs who had showing to do. She went down to IN to stay with her breeder Nigel to show down in the US and hopefully earn her AKC Grand Championship. Well on Sunday August 26th Keke won her third Select 4 point major win in a row to complete her Grand Champion title. She went on to win it again on the Monday.  The shows were hosted by the St. Croix Kennel Club in MN. A huge thank you goes to Nigel Clark for doing all the grooming and handling with Keke towards this title and for entrusting this absolutely fabulous girl to me.

May Update

captain_smallIt has been a very eventful couple of months here at Acostar! The biggest and most recent accomplishment is that Captain Elkrun’s Make It So At Acostar won Best Puppy in Show on Friday April 27th at the Assiniboine Kennel Club from Judge Alan Ewles. He was, as always, expertly handled by Tammy Sawatzky and groomed by Natasha Humeston. Thank you Tammy, Natasha and Mr. Ewles for making this tremendous honor possible. Watch for future updates on this beautiful boy. We expect him to be a new champion very soon.

tia_smallTia’s achievement was a great thrill and we are very proud of her but even more thrilling was that Captain got Best of Breed on the Saturday and TWO Best Puppy in Groups that same week-end! He received one on the Saturday from judge Peter Machen and one on the Sunday from judge Ed Wild. Captain is only 7 months old and already well on his way to his CKC Championship title. Acostar would like to thank Natasha Humeston our groomer for the fabulous job she does on all our dogs and Tammy Sawatzky and her whole team for the care and expertise they put into showing our dogs.

ruby_smallLast but certainly not least our girl Ruby Acostar’s Porto Rubi whelped her third litter through the early morning hours of Saturday April 28th and gave us 8 beautiful healthy puppies. She had 6 females, two wavy and 4 curly and only two males one wavy, one curly. This so far looks to be without a doubt Ruby’s nicest litter and I am really excited to watch them grow and see how they develop. A special thank you goes to Carol Arbuthnot, who owns the sire of this litter Markos Seastar Marcos Portugal of Sapphire for taking such good care of Ruby and all your efforts in making this litter a reality.

Acostar has a new Champion!

tiasmallSo far the winter 2012 show season has been very good for Acostar. Tia finished her CKC Championship the first week-end of March, her second week-end out. She took Best of Breed on the Friday under judge Cheryl Myers Eqerton and again on the Sunday under judge Ed Wild. She is now CH Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True pending CKC approval and will be heading down to the US to show for her AKC championship.

Last show of 2011

millar-0756We just attended our last dog show for 2011 and the dogs did wonderfully! Cassie finished her Canadian Championship going Winners Bitch on both Friday and Saturday for her final 4 points. She is now CH Acostar’s London Lejay Cassis pending approval from the CKC! A special thanks to Tammy Sawatzky and her wonderful team for doing such a great job showing Cassie. Cassie will start learning agility in January. On Sunday, Tia Elkrun Acostar Dream Come True won her first major for two points going Best of Breed over a Special from the senior puppy class. It has taken Tia a few shows to get the hang of this showing stuff but now that she has hit her stride we are expecting great things from her in 2012.
